Launch: DAIO for iPad - It Exists

What’s happening: DAIO for iPad is for sale in the App Store.

What it means to you: You can get in early and probably be my best friend for life by buying it today.

It’s been nearly eight months since diving back into the startup world solo, and DAIO for iPad has finally been released. To be honest, it’s not as good as Adobe Proto (yet), and it’s not as feature complete as AppCooker (yet) - but it exists - and just getting that far was pretty hard. If you have a chance to use it, drop me a line (ben@daio.com) to let me know what you think. Also, make sure to follow one of DAIO’s many online accounts to get a sneak peek at what’s next.

Reflex + Jumpstart

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be participating in the Jumpstart Foundry, a seed stage funding and mentoring program here in Nashville. As part of my business I plan to create a tool that helps designers build apps for iOS and Android devices (using the Reflex component framework). I probably won’t be releasing much more information until after the program is complete. So if you’re a designer with an interest in mobile apps or a fellow entrepreneur with big ideas on where this should go, feel free to send an email to mail [at] benstucki.net in the meantime - or sign up for an alpha invite here.

Digital Analog - 2010 Year End Review

I’ve been making a living as a Flex consultant for a number of years, but in 2010 I made it official by starting a company called Digital Analog, LLC. In honor of that achievement and in the spirit of being open with the development community, I’m “open-sourcing” my revenue numbers for 2010. I can’t give you the full line-by-line details of course (client confidentiality), but I am posting summaries of a few key areas below. If you find this post useful, educational or at least entertaining please consider recommending Digital Analog for any projects that pass your way in 2011.

Optimizing Flash Content for Mobile Devices

I had the honor of giving a presentation on “Optimizing Flash Content for Mobile Devices” at this year’s Adobe MAX conference and promised to post a follow up here. For those that weren’t able to make it, the presentation was broken up into four main areas: optimizing graphics and media, Flash rendering optimizations (which made up the bulk of my talk), memory use and code execution, and benchmarking. The main take-away was to understand the cost vs. reward of the optimization strategies available and make sure you’ve hit the quick fixes before diving headlong into an advanced technique (like blitting).
