See You at 360|Flex Atlanta
I’m going to be in Atlanta next week for the always incredible 360|Flex conference. I’ll be introducing a few of the new open source projects that I’ve been working on, as well as fielding questions on Degrafa at Juan’s session. I’ve copied my own session description below, followed by a few others that I’m dying to attend.
Reinventing Flex
Big changes lie ahead for Flex. Are you ready? In this session Ben will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Flex, hypothesize on the new development approaches we may see in future versions, and demonstrate the use of these forward thinking approaches in Flex applications today. Ben will also introduce OpenFlux, a framework for creating radically custom components in dramatically less time, and Plexiglass, an unreleased project that promises to bring 3D to the Flex community. Come ready for a few surprises, and walk away with a completely new perspective on Flex development.
Here are a few more sessions where you’re likely to see me in the audience.
- Jesse Warden – Big and Famous: How to succeed as an independent developer
- Deepa Subramaniam – Flex 4: What’s cooking
- Doug McCune – Open source flex community projects
- Brad Umbaugh – Practical 3-D: Immersive Interfaces For Regular People
- Juan Sanchez – Degrafa
The thing I really love about 360|Flex is that although the sessions are some of the best, the real fun is in the off the cuff hallway and mid-party conversations that go on. With so many of the top Flex developers just hanging around for three days, you can’t help but walk away with a better understanding of Flex. I’ve heard inside info that the tickets are starting to fly out the door. So if you’ve been sitting on the fence, you’d better move fast! Register before they’re gone, and I’ll see you there.
Update: I’ve posted my presentation slides here. The code samples will be in separate posts.

I’ll be there. I just started with a company here in AL doing Flex development for the first time in my career about a month ago. So far I really love Flex (coming from a .Net background). I am getting really stoked about this conference because of all the hype in the Flex community. I look forward to your session!
[...] see that Jesse and Ben just pimped their own sessions for 360Flex, so I might as well jump on the bandwagon. My session is [...]
Hey,
Saw your presentation at 360 flex on open flux. Very nice stuff. I have begun to use the button, its working very nice! I am working on using the scrollbar and I can see its not quite done. Was wondering what the roadmap is and if you need some help getting it finished.
Id love to contribute, seeing as I am going to use open flux and just start fixing things as I go along. Is there a mailing list setup yet, etc?

[...] 360|Flex conference definitely had an open-source tone to it. With talk of projects like Open Flux, Merapi, FlexLib and Degrafa, it was exciting to hear how developers are grouping together to push [...]
Hey Ben, could you post your slides on your blog?
Brian, that sounds great. I sent you an email.
Patrick, I added a link to my slides on this post. The code samples I used will be in separate posts.
I look forward to the next Flex event coming in San Jose will you be speaking at that Flex event to?
